The Algerian flag features two equal vertical bands of green (hoist side) and white. In the center of the flag, within the white band, there is a red, five-pointed star situated directly above a red crescent. The crescent and the star are traditional symbols of Islam, the predominant religion of Algeria. The green color traditionally represents Islam, while the white represents purity.
